A new aged care facility for the Wongaburra Society in Beaudesert.
Wongaburra Community Care is a new aged care facility located to the north of Beaudesert town centre. O’Neill Architecture are providing project management, architecture and interior design services. The site area requires that the project be constructed in stages. First early works stages will include for demolition and new carpark. The following stages will rehouse residents into 72 new rooms and support facilities. These facilities will include amenities intended for use by the wider community such as function and training rooms and a men’s shed. The predominately single storey building massing is appropriate to this semi-rural setting. The built form also interprets a rural vernacular within a state-of-the-art aged care facility. The masterplan arranges building wings around significant landscaped courtyards with a predominant northern aspect. The residential wings face these courtyards and are centred around two communal dining areas. This arrangement creates smaller familial groupings of bedrooms conceptualised as neighbourhoods. The development is conceived as a verdant garden scheme comprised of a series of courtyards and a visual axis that connects the site to an existing park to the north and mountain views to the southwest. The courtyards serve as key meeting places as they provide opportunities for casual meeting and some minor gardening. They are also the basis for a variety of walking circuits throughout the residential zone. The design will be a valuable addition to Wongaburra Society and the township of Beaudesert.
