The Noosa Heads Hotel is a luxury resort concept, that is carefully considered to fit its Central Noosa landscape.
The Noosa Heads Hotel site is raised slightly above the coastal dunes near Hastings Street at the point where the forest of Noosa Headlands meets the tributaries of the Noosa River, the beach and then the bay. The historic image from the Noosa roundabout of a classic timber heritage building perched on the top of the hill is maintained. The removal of later additions to the heritage lodge provides a chance to engage with the forest in beachside luxury with a short walk to the beach. Noosa Heads Hotel stands proud, overseeing a new landscaped slope to the street. The topography supports a stepping form of low scale buildings nestled into the hillside. Landscape is afforded the opportunity to grow around, within and over the new buildings. Carparking is submerged into the land, entered through a cave like opening and relegated to the background through careful site planning. Pedestrians are encouraged up and through the site via landscape stairs or the more formal hotel entry. The main hotel reception is conceived as a cave with its entry curtained by draping landscape. Once inside reception, a mysterious path enveloped in natural materials leads to the heritage core of the site as well as all rooms. Rooms are afforded maximum privacy with no overlooking between any occupants. The collective view of the rooms is not afforded from any vantage point. Even the path across the creek to the west will only be afforded filtered glimpses of the whole. The architectural approach to the Noosa Heads Hotel design has been to reimagine the most treasured aspects of the site and provide a sympathetic and exciting new destination within central Noosa.
